Hey Kinja users. This is my first post outside of commenting, and it’s something that I have been considering doing for a while. As many of you may know, I work in immigration law. I am not an expert; far from it, as I have less than two years of experience. However, I have a fairly broad base of knowledge in an area that is of increasing national importance and that is often poorly understood. I floated the idea a few times of doing some posts explaining some of the broad basics of the US immigration system, and responses were generally positive. So I’m finally getting my act together and want to start that.
Here’s where I need feedback, though! I think my first post is going to be on the history of American immigration laws, but I don’t know what else I should cover. So, I want to get some of your opinions and gauge interest!
Here are some proposed topics I’ve been thinking about:
- How people come to the US and seek asylum
- Basics of the immigration system
- Interactions between the criminal justice system and immigration
- A primer on the current Central American refugee crisis
- Our broken legal migration system
I’m also totally open to whatever areas people might be interested in that I haven’t covered here. So tell me what you think! Should I go forward with this? Am I wasting my time? Do you want more? My hope is that I’ll get my first post up in a week or so.
